Barrow Forward is stepping up to champion local sport and recreation by taking on the operation and management of the Barrow Astro Turf Pitches (ATP) on behalf of Westmorland and Furness Council, marking a major step in strengthening access to sport for everyone in the community.
This new partnership reflects a collaborative way of working between Barrow Forward and Westmorland & Furness Council, showcasing how joint efforts can deliver real benefits for residents. It also represents a key example of how the two organisations are embracing a new operating model, focused on shared goals, community wellbeing, and sustainable service delivery.
This exciting new chapter strengthens Barrow Park Leisure Centre’s commitment to making sport more accessible, inclusive and enjoyable for everyone in the local community.
Located in the heart of Barrow, the facility boasts six 5-a-side pitches, two 7-a-side pitches, and one 9-a-side pitch, offering flexible, high-quality spaces for training sessions, friendly matches and community events. The site has already become a popular hub for local teams and grassroots sport.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to be taking on the operation and management of the Barrow Astro Turf Pitches,” said Aidan Murphy, Head of Operations of Barrow Park Leisure Centre. “Just as we’ve done at Barrow Park Leisure Centre, our mission is to deliver high-quality, community-focused services that support health, wellbeing and active lifestyles.”
The pitches will initially be open during the following hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 3.00pm – 9.00pm
- Friday: 3.00pm – 8.00pm
- Saturday & Sunday (coming soon): 9.00am – 3.00pm
Bookings are now available online via the Barrow Park Leisure Centre website and app, making it easier than ever to secure a pitch.
Pitch hire rates:
- 5v5 – £38 per hour
- 7v7 – £47 per hour
- 9v9 – £90 per hour
We would also like to mention that this is in collaboration with Westmoreland and Furness.
In addition to managing the pitches, Barrow Park Leisure Centre is developing new community initiatives, inspired by popular programmes such as its 10p swims, to encourage even more people to get active, regardless of their age or ability.
The pitches are available for football, rugby and multi-sport bookings, providing a flexible and welcoming space for both clubs and casual players.
