Swimming Lessons
Everyone is welcome to our pool here at Barrow Park Leisure Centre! No matter what age you are, we have swimming lessons available to suit both adults and children alike.
Our Learn to Swim packages follows the Swim England programme and frameworks, taking your child on a journey from their first splash to developing confidence and competence in the water.
Learn To Swim
Stage 1-7 Awards
Our swimming lessons follow the Swim England Learn to Swim Awards. They are designed to reward your child for their development of the essential aquatic skills they need to be confident, competent and safe in the water.
Duckling Awards
Parent & child 6 months – 4 years
Our Duckling Awards are designed to help toddlers enjoy learning to swim with help from their parents or guardians.
Admissions Policy
All children under the age of 8 must be accompanied in the water by a *responsible person. *Responsible person must be 16 years or above and be a competent swimmer of 25 metres as a minimum.
Children under 4 years:
A responsible person must always be present in the water with the children. Children must wear approved floatation devices unless the ratio is 1:1 and parent is in constant contact. Children and parent to stay in the designated safe area.
Children 4-7 years:
A responsible person must always be present in the water with the children. If children are not confident swimmers, approved floatation devices must be worn, and they must stay within the designated safe area.
Children 8 years & over:
No parent supervision required provided the child can swim at least 25 metres. Children must be able to swim 25 metres minimum.
Swim test:
Lifeguards will request a swim test for children aged 8+ years who are entering deep water if they do not appear to be confident swimmers. Failure to complete the test will result in the child being asked to remain in a designated safe area or to leave the pool.
Pool pod:
If you have restricted mobility, we have the equipment and access to help you manoeuvre in and out of the training (main) pool and leisure pool. Our pool pod is designed to let you enter and exit the training pool with ease. If you need to use our pool pod, please inform staff at reception before the start of your session. For your safety and peace of mind one of our lifeguards will prepare the lift for your use and provide you with all the help you need to safely access the pool.
