MAIN POOL

Our main pool is ideal for lane swimming, swimming lessons, and general swimming sessions. Perfect for swimmers who want to improve technique, build fitness, attend swimming lessons or enjoy a more structured swim.

Our pool facilities include changing areas with lockers for customers to use during their visit. Swimming essentials such as goggles, padlock, arm bands and other swim-related items may also be available to purchase at reception.

Our Swim Only Membership is ideal for customers who mainly want regular access to both our main pool and leisure pool, making it a great-value option for anyone who wants to swim for fitness, wellbeing or leisure.

Aqua classes are a fun, low-impact way to stay active in the water. The resistance of the water helps support muscle toning and calorie burning, while reducing stress on the joints. These classes are a great option for a wide range of fitness levels, including customers looking for a gentler way to exercise (included in BEATS membership).

Admissions Policy

All children under the age of 8 must be accompanied in the water by a *responsible person. *Responsible person must be 16 years or above and be a competent swimmer of 25 metres as a minimum.

Children under 4 years:
A responsible person must always be present in the water with the children. Children must wear approved floatation devices unless the ratio is 1:1 and parent is in constant contact. Children and parent to stay in the designated safe area.

Children 4-7 years:
A responsible person must always be present in the water with the children. If children are not confident swimmers, approved floatation devices must be worn, and they must stay within the designated safe area.

Children 8 years & over:
No parent supervision required provided the child can swim at least 25 metres. Children must be able to swim 25 metres minimum.

Swim test:
Lifeguards will request a swim test for children aged 8+ years who are entering deep water if they do not appear to be confident swimmers. Failure to complete the test will result in the child being asked to remain in a designated safe area or to leave the pool. 

Pool pod:
If you have restricted mobility, we have the equipment and access to help you manoeuvre in and out of the training (main) pool and leisure pool. Our pool pod is designed to let you enter and exit the training pool with ease. If you need to use our pool pod, please inform staff at reception before the start of your session. For your safety and peace of mind one of our lifeguards will prepare the lift for your use and provide you with all the help you need to safely access the pool.

We want swimming to be as accessible and welcoming as possible. If you have restricted mobility or need support accessing the pool, we have equipment available to help, including a pool pod for supported pool entry and exit.

Swimming Lessons

Everyone is welcome to our pool here at Barrow Park Leisure Centre! No matter what age you are, we have swimming lessons available to suit both adults and children alike.

Our Learn to Swim packages follows the Swim England programme and frameworks, taking your child on a journey from their first splash to developing confidence and competence in the water.

Stage 1-7 Awards

Our swimming lessons follow the Swim England Learn to Swim Awards. They are designed to reward your child for their development of the essential aquatic skills they need to be confident, competent and safe in the water.

Duckling Awards

Parent & child 6 months – 4 years

Our Duckling Awards are designed to help toddlers enjoy learning to swim with help from their parents or guardians.

 

FAQ

How do I book swimming lessons?

You can book through CoursePro or contact the centre directly. If you are unsure which stage is right for you or your child, please contact us. Our team can help guide you based on your child’s age, confidence and swimming ability.

Do I need to book a swimming session in advance?

We recommend booking in advance where possible, especially during busy periods, to help reduce reception workload and to guarantee your entry.

What should I bring with me for swimming?

Please bring suitable swimwear, a towel, padlock and goggles if needed. Other swimming essentials are also available for purchase at reception.

Can I give feedback about a swimming session/ lesson?

Yes, feedback is always welcome. Please speak to reception or contact us through: enquiries@barrowleisure.co.uk to share feedback about your experience. 

Can I stay longer than my booked swim session?

Customers are usually expected to leave the pool at the end of their booked session so the next session can begin safely and on time.

What happens if I'm late for my swim session?

If you arrive late, you may still be able to join the session, but your swim time may be reduced. Entry is subject to session availability and safety limits. 

Can I cancel or move my swimming booking?

For booking changes please manage online or contact reception for further support.

Do I need to be a member to swim?

No, you do not need to be a member to swim. We offer pay-as-you go swimming options, alongside membership access.
